A look back (and forward) on fall thus far (and to come):

1. Medical school interviews
2. Lots of tests and stress
3. Going to the grocery store way more than usual
4. Being involved in a hit-and-run (today)
4a. Killing a swarm of horse flies with Maggie
4b. Getting the flu
(4 is my least favorite number so I dedicate it to my least favorite happenings)
5. Race for the Cure this Sunday with Angela (in memory of Mary Anne)
6. Looking to buy a Canon AE-1 camera
7. Wearing two shirts to bed because it's cold!
8. Buying the very last issue of Gourmet magazine :(
9. Rediscovering cold-weather music by Alexi Murdoch, Gregory and the Hawk, and Michelle Featherstone.
10. Watching Hocus Pocus with Maggie while wearing witch hats
11. Registering for an upper-division English class: Literary Marriages from Hell in which half the reading list is by Sylvia Plath (my favorite author)
12. Purchasing Rebecca
13. Adding Away We Go to my list of favorite movies
14. Slathering on white tea and ginger body lotion (because the cold has killed the bugs)
15. Making a list of fall foods to make:
1) Pumpkin butter
2) Butternut squash and caramelized onion galette
3) Potato and onion latkes

And looking forward to winter for ice skating on the roof of Whole Foods, the Trail of Lights, and winter break when I get to see my cousins!

Yesterday I concocted a recipe. So let me share it with you! Sorry I don't have pictures but I left my camera at home :( and my roommate and I were pretty focused on watching Hocus Pocus. I highly recommend trying out my recipe as it was very good!

Chicken thigh with fontina wrapped in proscuitto
1. Preheat oven to 375 F.
2. Wrap a boneless, skinless chicken thigh around a small piece of fontina cheese and sprinkle with salt and freshly ground black pepper.
3. Wrap it all in one layer of proscuitto.
4. Set on a lined baking dish and sprinkle with extra virgin olive oil.
5. Bake for 20 minutes or until chicken is cooked through.

I served my piece with cranberry-walnut bread that I toasted with fresh mozzarella and topped with a roasted roma tomato (I roasted roma tomato halves - deseeded - on the side with the chicken).

Enjoy!

I've been toying with the idea of starting a food/recipe blog. There's lots of them out there but none of a college student who loves Giada and Ina and cooks things like filet mignon and shrimp on a weeknight (much less a weekend). And that way, I can also take photos more often (since it seems like taking photos, something I used to...I mean, still...love has become more of a chore since I don't have much free time). Should I do it?

Well, while I ponder that...here's something new I'm trying at this very moment! It's cold-brewed iced coffee. Indeed. I put mine in a Sweet Leaf tea glass I saved (reduce, reuse, recycle!) and it's in the process of brewing for 12 hours until tomorrow morning. I'm excited to try it!

1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die

I wanted to buy this book from Anthropologie over a year ago. It's originally $35. Now it's on sale for about $15. I got really excited, thinking that now I could buy it. But then I thought a little bit more and came to the conclusion that for $15 I could buy two books from Half Price Books. I'd say that's a better choice. That way, I can actually get two steps closer to reading all 1001 books! And then I found the list online! Isn't it great how things work out like that?

Of the first 100 on the list, I've only read 5 (#s 19, 28, 42, 86, 93).
How many have you read?

I love how Dove is doing these self-esteem commercials and classes for young girls. It's so stupid how women feel the need to be prettier or thinner or whatever. I mean, seriously, go eat some cheese. It's good for you and it's yummy. That's what I'm doing now...

I shot a father and daughter this morning (photos, not criminal). I'm excited to show you what I caught but here's a little preview. (I know, not exactly exciting or a great preview but they were so cute matching in their white shirts, jeans, and Chucks!)

On a completely different note: really facebook? do people need this?

This past August, the Dallas Arboretum had a special: $1 admission! It was SO hot but pretty nonetheless. Photos ahead!

I've had this fascination with elephants for a very long time. I think they are so cute and precious even though they are monstrous and have a funny long nose. I think I fell in love with elephants the first time I watched A Little Princess (with Liesel Matthews, not Shirley Temple). It's one of my favorite movies. You should do yourself a favor and watch it if you haven't.
